چکیده

In this paper we present a multiresolution-based method for period determination that is able to deal with unevenly sampled data. This method allows us to detect superimposed periodic signals with lower signal-to-noise ratios than in classical methods. This multiresolution-based method is a generalization of the wavelet-based method for period detection that is unable to deal with unevenly sampled data, presented by the authors in Otazu et al. (2002). This new method is a useful tool for the analysis of real data and, in particular, for the analysis of astronomical data.

Spectral Analysis of Stellar Light Curves by Means of Neural Networks

Periodicity analysis of unevenly collected data is a relevant issue in several scientific fields. In astrophysics, for example, we have to find the fundamental period of light or radial velocity curves which are unevenly sampled observations of stars. Classical spectral analysis methods are unsatisfactory to solve the problem. In this paper we present a neural network based estimator system whi...

Smoothing sparse and unevenly sampled curves using semiparametric mixed models: An application to online auctions

Functional data analysis can be challenging when the functional objects are sampled only very sparsely and unevenly. Most approaches rely on smoothing to recover the underlying functional object from the data which can be difficult if the data is irregularly distributed. In this paper we present a new approach that can overcome this challenge. The approach is based on the ideas of mixed models....

An Approach to Sparse Continuous-time System Identification from Unevenly Sampled Data

In this work, we address the problem of identifying sparse continuous-time dynamical systems when the spacing between successive samples (the sampling period) is not constant over time. The proposed approach combines the leave-one-sample-out cross-validation error trick from machine learning with an iterative subset growth method to select the subset of basis functions that governs the dynamics...

Complexity, Multiresolution, Non-stationarity and Entropic Scaling: Teen Birth Thermodynamics

This paper presents a statistical methodology for analyzing a complex phenomenon in which deterministic and scaling components are superimposed. 10 Our approach is based on the wavelet multiresolution analysis combined with the scaling analysis of the entropy of a time series. The wavelet multiresolution analysis decomposes the signal in a scale-by-scale manner. The scale-by-scale decomposition...

Linear matrix inequality approach for synchronization of chaotic fuzzy cellular neural networks with discrete and unbounded distributed delays based on sampled-data control

In this paper, linear matrix inequality (LMI) approach for synchronization of chaotic fuzzy cellular neural networks (FCNNs) with discrete and unbounded distributed delays based on sampled-data controlis investigated. Lyapunov-Krasovskii functional combining with the input delay approach as well as the free-weighting matrix approach are employed to derive several sufficient criteria in terms of...
